How Stupid Are They?

Hello again friends and readers; it is I, your hopefully thought provoking Uncle Eddie. I am here to play another round of HOW STUPID ARE THEY? Today I would like to address another piece of stupidity dreamed up in the heads of those we have elected and sent to our nation’s capitol.  More and more I am coming to believe that we are sending them there to enact legislation not on our behalves but for the special interest groups.

Eventually they will get around to censoring comments such as this one, but until they do I will continue to exercise my freedom of speech which is guaranteed to me in the United States Constitution in general and the Bill of Rights specifically.  I served this country in the military, and the oath I took upon my enlistment and re-enlistment where “I, state your name, do solemnly swear (or affirm) to defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies both foreign and domestic.” Many thanks on my behalf go out to S.T. Lewis who voiced his opinion in “buzzflash.com” some 7 years ago.

Thomas Jefferson decreed in his letter to William S. Smith that “…the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."  Believe me people, today we are living in a time when we could figuratively fertilize this nations crop fields of all types from coast to coast with the manure that is produced in the halls of congress.

This latest stretch of the imagination is in regards to a proposed piece of legislation that would have our federal legal forces reaching their grime and slime covered fingers into other countries which are, I would surmise, practicing their God given rights.  So once again I am forced to ask; “What makes, or gives us, the right to tell another country how to live their lives and treat their citizens?  Especially when our government is seeking to curtail our own!

I turn once again for another quote to one of our founding fathers; Thomas Jefferson stated that “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”  It wasn’t too long ago that congress sought to do away with this right.  Somewhere in the dark anterooms of the halls of congress I am sure, wheeling and dealing is being done to bring this battle back to the forefront of legal battles.  Hopefully if any type of legislation such as this gets passed by congress it will be shot down by either the president or the Supreme Court.

The final quote I would like to borrow from Mr. Jefferson is “The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.”  Once again I am not calling for outright rebellion in the streets in which gunfire is needed.  I am asking for my fellow Americans who are dedicated to the freedom we have come to expect to stand up and say ENOUGH!

WE elect you; you represent Us
YOU CAN BE REPLACED!

I keep coming back to the same old issues.  Balance the damn budget.  Feed and provide to our poor.  Make taxes fair for everyone.  And finally and most importantly clean up our own backyard.  We have no right to tell another nation how to conduct their nation’s affairs, especially since ours is so messed up.  Yes you can say that we have a moral duty to watch out for our brothers and sisters, and I will agree with you.  However, our first duty should be to look inside our own borders providing for those citizens who need protection and help meeting their most basic needs.

I am not someone who is without sin and, as the Greatest Teacher of all time said in John chapter 8; “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”  I don’t call for stones to be thrown, as such; I speak of the figurative stones of the vote.  Yep, it is that wonderful time that rolls around every 2, 4 or 6 years, depending on which elections you vote in.  I believe that all are equally important, because if one of the elected officials we send to a capitol whether it be city, county, state or federal, we have the duty to replace them with someone else who claims they will look out for our best interests.  If they don’t work out replace them, and so on until someone realizes that we have had enough.

This life we lead is much like the spinning wheel, round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows.  We may never be able to bring the wheel to a complete stop, but maybe if we try hard enough we can slow it down enough to where, maybe just maybe, a little bit of it makes some kind of sense to us.

The primary call today is that we need leaders, not politicians.  Ironically, it is the politicians who are screaming out this call.  So for the next 11 months watch the commercials, read each candidates platform, research the legislation that is being brought out, and be sure that we as voters are doing our due diligence when we walk into that small space to cast our votes.  Check out the people that each of the political parties is trotting out.  Remember that if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then you should probably do as it is suggesting and duck.

Surprise Washington, and look for the real leaders.  I believe that we have a leader currently in place.  The problem is that he is being held back by a polarized house and senate.  The very people who are saying that he is not the leader we need are the ones who are putting the obstacles in his way.
Again, I am asking for you to think, study, understand, and finally act upon what you learn; don’t just take my word for it.  Look for the truth, I don’t have it, but it is out there, and I hope that someday you and I will have enough information that we can make the choice that will put this nation back in control of the citizens.  We as citizens should not have to live in fear of our government; the government should live in fear of those it governs.

As John Basil Barnhill said in 1914; “Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.”  The only way we as citizens can make the government fear us is by exercising.  Not our muscles or our trigger fingers, but our brain so that we can choose wisely in November and put people into office who have some integrity and will do what they promise.

There is an old joke about politicians and it goes something like this:
Q:  How can you tell when a politician is lying?
                A:  His lips are moving.

Somewhere out there is the politician who has figured out that he can speak the truth, make promises, and then carry them out.  Work for us, not against us.  Is that too much to ask from our government?

LET EMPATHY, NOT APATHY RULE OUR LIVES.  LET OUR LIVES BE OUR EXAMPLES FOR OUR YOUNG!
