Well the 10th anniversary of yet another sad day in American history, we mourned the loss of thousands of innocent lives at the hands of men who were bent on destroying our way of life. Well as has been the case with other nations and/or groups they failed miserably. They learned nothing from the English example set in the war of 1812, or from the French and Indian War, or from our own southern states when they seceded from the Union, and still more recently on 7 December 1941 a "Date that will live in infamy" according to our then great president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. When you attack us all you do is to "waken a sleeping giant" as stated by a Japanese Admiral just moments after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
One of my friends posted the following on his social networking page, please read.
There are a lot of people out there who believe that we shouldn't be at war, that we should stay to ourselves and bring the soldiers home. To the first part of the previous statement I say this, have you forgotten what happened those 10 long years ago? Where would we be if we had just let things continue as they were after the attack on Pearl Harbor? Both times we responded to unprovoked attacks as we should have, we as a nation mobilized for war, putting boots on the ground where ever it was needed to stop aggression in it's tracks. We were victorious then, and with persistance and determination we will be again.
While the war may be unpopular lets remember that the soldiers didn't start this, nor do they want to be where they are half a world away from their loved ones. Whenever they return home they have done so to crowds cheering, flags waving, and open arms. This is a marked change from just 40 years ago when they returned from Vietnam to derision, spitting, cursing, and other forms of protest aimed at them because they did what their governments told them to do. Life changes, the world turns, and time marches on, but as has been said many times, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
